Hummingbird Communications, the PC X Windows integration technology and marketshare leader, has addressed this issue with eXceed/NT-XDK, a software product that enables a simplified migration to the Windows NT workstation. eXceed/NT-XDK allows any X Windows C program to be ported to the NT platform in five simple steps.
Dynamics Research Corp., a 1955 spin-off from a well-known US military product engineering laboratory, provides a multitude of hardware, software and services to enhance the performance and reliability of complex computer systems for large customers, including the military and other government departments. With annual sales of about US$100 million, Dynamics Research employs approximately 1,200 people.
Recently, the company ported a 35,000 line X Windows program to the Windows NT operating system, utilizing Hummingbird's eXceed/NT-X Development Kit. Achieving successful results, the way is paved for Dynamics Research to further port its X Window System applications to the Windows NT platform, enabling the company to market its products to both Windows NT and other desktop environments of the future.
"The combination of Hummingbird's XDK with Windows NT's SDK or Visual C++ is a really powerful and easy to use NT development environment for X/Motif 0applications," stated Larry Kahn of Dynamics Research Corp.
Hummingbird's eXceed/NT PC X server software, together with the eXceed/NT-XDK development toolkit, transforms the Windows NT PC into a true client/server workstation: X-client applications running on remote host computers can be displayed on the NT PC, and X-client applications running on the Windows NT PC can be displayed on any X server on the network. In essence, Hummingbird's eXceed software transforms the Windows NT machine into a fully capable X Window System workstation.
